Dong-sing Wuu (武東星) elected as 8th NCNU president
The special electoral committee of National Chi Nan University (NCNU) convened on Dec. 6, 2020 to deliberate upon the university’s presidential candidates, resulting in Dong-sing Wuu (武東星), a tenured professor with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Taichung-based National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), receiving the most votes. Wuu’s appointment has been confirmed by the Ministry of Education and his term will begin on Feb. 1, 2021.
On March 26, the university selected its electoral committee members according to protocol — 4 faculty representatives, 1 delegate representing school employees and researchers, 1 student representative, 2 members of the alumni network, 4 members of the civic public, and 3 officials from the Ministry of Education.
Pi-twan Huang(黃碧端), former vice educational minister was chosen by the committee as its chair. After four rounds of deliberations and in-person meetings with all the candidates, the committee completed its mission accordingly.
The electoral decision was cast anonymously after each candidate presented his vision for university governance in front of the committee, after which Wuu received his confirmation from MOE as the 8th president of NCNU.
NCNU president Yulong Oliver Su finished his term on Dec. 8, 2020. Before Wuu starts on Feb. 1, 2021, the university board has appointed Dr. Su as interim president for the duration of Dec. 9, 2020 through Jan. 31, 2021.
